Celtic hero Leigh Griffiths hits back at Hearts fan

Leigh Griffiths has offered a fine social media response when goaded about the result in the Edinburgh derby yesterday.

The former Hibernian striker and supporter was laughed at by one Hearts fan. Hearts managed to overcome Hibs 2-1 at Easter Road. Griffiths has, in the past, been seen in Leith supporting his old club.

He also spent some time there as a player earlier on in his career, and is well-adored by those in Leith. Many Hibs fans also sent their support to Griff when he was out dealing with personal problems last season.

But the Celtic and Scotland striker bit back nicely when goaded. Here’s a look at the tweet from our centre-forward:

Griff hopefully back in the thick of things as soon as possible

It’s fair to say that the relationship between Griffiths and the Hearts fans is strained. They’re not big fans of each other, and you get the feeling that our man wouldn’t want it any other way.

He will undoubtedly have been watching his old club yesterday, but it’s vital he gets back playing for Celtic regularly once again. In recent weeks, the Scotland international has struggled for game-time. He hasn’t featured in any of the last three Premiership matches against Rangers, Hamilton, and Kilmarnock respectively.

Perhaps worryingly for Griff, he’s also watched Vakoun Issouf Bayo come on ahead of him on more than one occasion now too. You have to wonder what’s going through our striker’s head. But there’s no denying he’ll be up for the fight.

Celtic managed to overcome Kilmarnock 3-1 at Celtic Park to make it six wins out of six in the league. Griffiths helped play his part at the start of the season with a fine free-kick at Motherwell. However, outside of that, his influence has been minimal.

His last start came at home to Dunfermline Athletic in the Betfred Cup over a month ago. It’s clear that Griff faces a real battle to get back in. The one thing we all know, however, is that he’ll do all he can to do it.

And, if his social media activity is a sign of his mind-set, he certainly doesn’t seem too down about the situation.
