Celtic hero makes it clear to media very early he doesn't care what rivals are doing

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has insisted neither he nor his teammates will be taking notice of what Rangers or any other teams in the Scottish Premiership are doing this season.

McGregor is setting his stall out early with regards to the competition, ahead of plenty of title race narratives and media questions on the rivalry with the Ibrox side.

Ange Postecoglou has insisted that his entire staff and group of players only focus on what they can control, rather than external forces or the moves and machinations of rival teams.

The Celtic captain is intent on bringing that policy into the new campaign, telling The Herald: “You’ve just got to be as hungry as what you were last year. Show that in your performance, show that in everything you do, the way you carry yourself, the way you perform in training and the standards the group set for each other. We’re not even looking at anyone else. We’re over here [in Austria], we’re in a remote location and we’re working hard.

“Probably one of our strengths from last year is that we don’t look at anybody else. We only look internally. Every single day when we go on the pitch we give everything to be the best we possibly can be. And the manager always demands that.

“So, we’ve not had any conversations about what other teams are doing. It’s purely based on what this club’s doing and how we can prepare ourselves best for the new season.”

Obviously, there’s going to be a lot of hype heading into the new campaign with regards to where the trophies in Scottish football will end up.

Nothing is guaranteed and the smart money would be on another tight battle in all competitions.

However, Celtic are the pace setters here, so there’s no reason to look elsewhere. If the Bhoys improve on their levels from Postecoglou’s first season, it shouldn’t matter what others manage to do.

This is the right message we want to be hearing from the club captain. It’s all about Celtic. And long may it continue.
