Celtic hero Chris Sutton has capped off a dramatic Friday with the announcement that he has been nominated for the Best Pundit award at the British Sports Journalism Awards.
Sutton, who works for a variety of outlets including BBC 5 Live, BT Sport, The Daily Record and The Daily Mail is never shy with his opinions and often represents Celtic well in the media.
Announcing his nomination today, Sutton referenced ‘certain dictators’ who’d like him to keep quiet.

As usual Chris Sutton isn’t holding back
He said on Twitter: “Delighted and proud to have been nominated for this even though certain dictators want me muted for having an opinion which is different to their own… I love working at 5 Live.”
The former Celtic striker has been nominated alongside Alan Shearer, Alex Scott, Ally McCoist, David Coulthard, Ian Wright, Jason Bell, Jon Wilkin, Nasser Hussain and Roy Keane.
It comes after Sutton was drawn into a media furore today, following comments made by Michael Beale in his pre-match press conference.
The Rangers manager didn’t name names but left no one in too much doubt about who he was referencing when criticising the “worst ever” Chelsea player, who is also a pundit on the Scottish football beat.
That prompted some sharp responses from the former Celtic striker on social media, suggesting that Beale was going down the Pedro Caixinha route with some of his press comments. [Daily Record]
Sutton is now one of the most prominent pundits in the UK and I doubt he’s going anywhere anytime soon given he is acclaimed by his broadcast peers, as evidenced by this award nomination.
These ‘certain dictators’ Sutton is talking about should probably get used to him being around.
