Celtic icon Scott Brown fittingly wins derby this weekend as his team power clear of relegation

Former Celtic captain Scott Brown is a happy man this weekend after guiding his Fleetwood Town team to a derby win against rivals Morecambe.

Brown is well known for upstaging derby opponents and his outfit got the better of Derek Adams’ team by a 1-0 margin after Carlos Mendes Gomes netted after just 13 minutes.

After the game, the Fleetwood boss said [Fleetwood Town]: “I’ll take that all season long. The first half was a great watch, we had composure, there was no pressure on the ball, and we had that bit of quality in the first half with the ball in.

“They were winning a lot of second balls, but it was just one ball down the right, and we managed to keep a hold of it. Second half we showed some composure on the ball which we badly needed. We kept a clean sheet again which is really pleasing.”

Fleetwood now sit on 42 points after 33 games and are realistically just a few positive results away from confirming their status in the league next year and avoiding relegation.

They’re already 11 points clear of the relegation zone and historically teams who get into the high forties or beyond end up avoiding the drop.

Scott Brown aiming for FA Cup shock this week

Now in the top half of the table after a solid unbeaten run, Brown and his team can look forward to a massive FA Cup 5th Round clash away to Burnley this coming Wednesday.

It’s the furthest Fleetwood have ever gone in the tournament and a place in the quarter-finals beckons, if they can pull off another big shock against a team in the division above them.

Ahead of that, no doubt the former Bhoy will be cheering on Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final against Rangers. It could be further derby delight for Brown!
