A former member of the Celtic invincibles side is on the hunt for a new club after he was released at the end of his contract.

It’s that time of the season when players in the last year of their deal become a free agent after being told their contract won’t be renewed.

Brendan Rodgers’ decision on who will stay and who will go is yet to be confirmed, with Greg Taylor the highest profile name yet to commit his future to the Hoops.

Taylor could still stay at Celtic but while the left-back’s future rumbles on, some former Celtic stars have already been consigned to their fate.

Gary Mackay-Steven released by Kilmarnock

Former Celtic star Gary Mackay-Steven is one of the 15 players released by Kilmarnock at the end of this season.

Kilmarnock have recently appointed Stuart Kettlewell as manager following Derek McInnes’ move to Hearts and his first decision was to release Mackay-Steven.

A statement from the Ayrshire club wished the winger and his fellow team mates the best for the future.

Mackay-Steven was a bit-part player and only made 13 appearances in all competitions.

Gary Mackay-Steven fulfilled his dream at Celtic

Although he was only a bit-part player in his time at Celtic Park, Mackay-Steven still got to be part of a side that won league titles.

After joining in January 2015, it only took a few months to win his first Scottish Premiership title and fulfil his dream.

Speaking to Sky Sports in May 2015, he said: “The main thing was to go here and win silverware and the league – that’s what I came here for.

“I’m happy to be here and just want to kick on next season and do well. We have got a really strong squad here, the manager has a lot of options in most positions and everyone is fighting for a place, so there is a lot of competition and the future looks bright.”
