Celtic have released a statement thanking supporters this evening after unprecedented record-breaking sales of the club’s new Adidas training wear range.
Fans were up early for the 8am launch and despite technical problems resulting from the demand, thousands have purchased the merchandise to get Celtic’s new partnership with the German sportswear manufacturer off to a flying start.
The club said on its official website: “Today we launched the pre-order for the first drop of our eagerly anticipated adidas x Celtic FC collection, and you have been flocking in your thousands to our online store to check out the first instalment!
“Celtic fans are known the world over for their passionate support, and adidas wanted to be a part of that. To feel that buzz from the best fans in the world. Today once more you have shown that unwavering commitment in support of the champions.
“Our online store is dealing with unprecedented numbers on the site, as sales continue to rise, and we want to say a massive thank you for your support!
“Time and time again, you prove that Glasgow really is green and white, and as we enter the adidas x Celtic FC era we just keep getting bigger.”
Adidas may be feeling pretty good about their reported £25m+ investment in the Scottish champions (Scottish Sun), which can only be good news for the club’s future commercial opportunities.
With all three first-team kits yet to even officially be launched, there is plenty of mileage left this season for lots of money to be made by all parties.
Fans have already offered glowing reviews after behind-the-scenes leaks of the new tops.
The apparent tribute to the Love Street 86 looks particularly fetching.
Will sales of the new home, away and third kits also break records?
Celtic may want to think about upgrading the online shop ahead of that launch to avoid the issues that were apparent today.
