Celtic have issued a strong statement in response to comments by West Brom technical director Luke Dowling.
Dowling was highly critical of Oliver Burke’s treatment at the club under Neil Lennon.
“He won’t be going nowhere near Celtic with the current manager” Dowling said, as reported by the Express and Star.
“Once Brendan left to go to Leicester the treatment he got from the manager that’s in place now is something we don’t expect for one of our players.”
However, Celtic have responded to the comments.
“Ridiculous and completely inaccurate”
“These comments, which question the professionalism of both Neil and Celtic Football Club, are ridiculous and completely inaccurate” the statement reads, as it appears on the club website.
“West Brom have made no contact whatsoever with either Neil or the club in relation to Oliver.”
“As with every player who comes to Celtic, Oliver received the very best of treatment and every support and opportunity. We wish Oliver the very best for the future.”
Hoops had to respond
The comments from Dowling had to be responded to by Celtic, and it is good to see the club be so robust in their response to the Championship side.
Also, it should be remembered that Burke featured fairly often for Celtic when Lennon took over at Celtic. He started in games against both Hearts and Rangers.
You don’t select players for those games if you don’t think they can make an impact. The best Celtic team towards the end of the season didn’t feature Burke.
That is no fault of the player or of Lennon, it is just something that happens in football. Both Celtic and Burke can now move on.
