Celtic join Europe’s elite after impressive start under Brendan Rodgers

You may not realise it, but it’s been a hugely impressive start to the Premiership season from Celtic.

It’s been far from easy at times for Brendan Rodgers‘ men — just look at our weekend win from Motherwell. Yet on all but one occasion so far in the league this season, we’ve found a way to win.

Pittodrie, Ibrox, Tony Macaroni Arena, Fir Park. Four grounds that we have gone to and secured maximum points. Ross County and Dundee have also been dealt with at home while St. Johnstone — who only have three points from their first seven matches — are the only side to stop us from winning.

It’s still very early days but we’re well on the road to three-in-a-row. That’s been reflected in a very pleasing graphic released by Transfermarkt.

The outlet have compiled a list of the teams that are still undefeated this season in Europe’s top ten leagues. There are 18 sides in total.

PSV Eindhoven and Fenerbahce top the pile with maximum points, while we find ourselves back in seventh place alongside Sporting Lisbon and Galatasaray.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs, Arsenal, Feyenoord and St. Mirren are among the teams just behind us.

While we often take this stuff for granted nowadays, given the consistency that this Celtic side have shown since the early days of the Postecoglou era, it is still very good form.

The competition in Scotland may not be great at present, but it shouldn’t take away from the will of these players to keep returning week after week and picking up results. Our rivals across the city have certainly struggled with that over the years.

The big step for this team now is to earn some big results in Europe. We certainly seem ready to do that, but it’s all about stepping up when the heat is on and it really matters.

That all begins on Wednesday against Lazio. We can’t wait.
