Celtic fans’ Not Another Penny campaign is completely justified after the Parkhead club dropped Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain merchandise into the same price bracket as Henrik Larsson.

Larsson is a true Celtic legend and, in truth, the vast majority of supporters don’t mind shelling out that extra few pounds for official club merchandise. That was before the Celtic Fans Collective launched Not Another Penny launched, of course.

But now, Celtic are selling official Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain merchandise in their online shop priced at a minimum of £125, and how that compares to Larsson’s highlights a significant shift in the club’s valuation policy.

Poll: Is Henrik Larsson Celtic’s greatest player of all time?

Celtic’s pricing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s merch is puzzling

Celtic fans love their official merchandise, but they can also see an opportunistic money-making ploy from the club when they see one. And that is exactly what is going on here.

Let’s compare prices:

Oxlade-Chamberlain has only been in the door at Celtic for a proverbial five minutes and the club has the midfielder at the highest price-point.

For context, a signed Adam Idah shirt is priced at £250, reduced from £425 and the big Irishman won four trophies and made an impact in the Champions League for Celtic.

How Not Another Penny is impacting Celtic

So far, the campaign has hit Celtic to the tune of over £350,000 in lost matchday income and merchandise revenue.

However, the most damage that is being done is to Celtic’s reputation and brand as the stand-off with supporters continues to draw negative headlines across the country and beyond.

With no resolution to the Green Brigade or fan media ban in sight, Celtic fans are standing by their campaign to force change in the Parkhead boardroom.

And after looking at these prices, it’s little wonder.
