Celtic legends Jackie McNamara and John Hartson: the newest stars of Saturday Night TV
Celtic legends Jackie McNamara and John Hartson are set to star on the BBC’s Pointless.
The 67 Hail Hail contributor and the Welsh striking dynamo will take on a litany of football stars, in a Celebrity edition of the flagship programme.
Hosted by comedian Alexander Armstrong, Pointless challenges contestants to find the most obscure answers to general knowledge questions. On the air since 2009, participants must find answers that 100 studio audience members wouldn’t have guessed.
Right, let’s be honest; you’ve watched it before.
According to the Scottish Sun, Jackie Mac and Big Bad John will take on Chloe Morgan, Jenna Schillaci and Rachel Brown-Finnis. Peter Shilton, Paul Parker and David James represent the ex-England Men’s contingent. We’ve not been offered an exclusive on how Jackie and John got on, unfortunately.
With the international break ongoing, it’s the closest thing Celtic fans will have to club action this weekend.
John Hartson and Jackie McNamara: Celtic legends, unknown quiz team qualities
Funnily enough, Celtic have featured in TV quizzes relatively recently. The Bhoys, albeit loosely, featured in an Australian episode of Who Wants to be a Millionaire only last year [Glasgow Live].
Host Eddie McGuire called Celtic “the greatest team in the world” while his contestant mulled over a question about the Mediterranean Sea. McGuire also called himself a “big Celtic man”, which means he has 30-1 odds to replace Neil Lennon.
Alas, we’ll have to wait until tomorrow night to see how Hartson and McNamara get on. Given the two’s diverse range of interests, you suspect they’d do well in a quiz. McNamara, for example, isn’t just a former footballer, manager, director and agent, he wrote a sitcom pilot for the BBC in 2011 [BBC].
We’re hoping that questions about European cities comes up at some stage.
