A Celtic legends side are set to take part in a Warrenpoint fundraiser for the Kevin Bell Reparation Trust, an Irish bereavement charity, in August.

The Hoops icons are travelling to County Down for the showpiece at the Milltown stadium on August 27th, with all proceeds going to the KBRT, a charity which aims to return the bodies of those bereaved abroad back to Ireland.

As reported by The Irish News, Celtic icons including:  Danny McGrain, Roy Aitken, Alan Stubbs, Bobby Petta, Rudi Vata, Tommy Johnson, Joe Miller, Brian McClair and Lubo Moravcik will all take part in the fundraiser, with a meet and greet and evening function following the conclusion of the game.

The legends team will face a different side in each half, squaring off against reigning Carnbane League champions Cleary Celtic in the first period, before facing Erin Go Bragh CSC, the biggest Celtic supporters’ club not based in Glasgow, in the second.

Celtic’s side will be led out by charity founder Collie Bell, who will also kick the game off, in recognition of his and his wife’s work for the cause following the death of his son Kevin in 2013.

The organiser, Colm McAlinden said in reaction to Collie’s involvement: “Collie’s a Celtic man, so he’s absolutely blown away by that.”

It marks the latest in a series of charity friendlies involving Celtic legends sides in recent years, including Scott Brown’s testimonial but the first of these games to be announced, post-pandemic.
