Celtic-linked Dutch international starting to rip it up in Ligue 1 ahead of January
Celtic-linked Marco Bizot appears to be picking up some real momentum with Brest heading into the January transfer window.
Earlier this month, French outlet Homme du Match reported that Bizot was on Celtic’s radar and that the Hoops were considering a loan move this January. That’s apparently only something Brest will accept if there’s a compulsory purchase clause in the deal.
Since then, not much has been said on it. Bizot hasn’t exactly been overly-committal when it comes to whether he’ll be at Brest for the long-term [Ouest France].
However, it looks as though the Dutch international is certainly finding his feet. Arriving as recently as in the summer from AZ Alkmaar, he’s been Brest’s first-choice goalkeeper throughout their Ligue 1 campaign.
It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for the 30-year-old after going 11 games without a win upon his arrival. But in recent times, he’s shown safe hands to help turn his club’s form around.
Bizot has 2 clean sheets in his last 4 matches. More impressively, however, he hasn’t conceded more than 1 goal in a single game in any of his last 6. This has led to Brest turning their form and campaign around. They’re currently on a run of 4 straight wins and 6 unbeaten [Transfermarkt].
Celtic-linked Marco Bizot suddenly flying in Ligue 1
Bizot was particularly impressive in recent matches against the likes of Lille and Monaco. Conceding one in the former and bagging a clean sheet in the latter, he made a host of fine stops that have proven crucial to his team’s turnaround in form.
He was again in fine form in the 2-1 win away to Bordeaux at the weekend. Called into action on several occasions, Bizot showed a commanding presence and fine shot-stopping ability. After a recent 4-0 win over Lens, he was also included in the Ligue 1 Team of the Week [SofaScore].
If Celtic are looking to move for a new goalkeeper in January, it looks as though they could do worse. Of course, serious question marks remain over just why Brest would want to lose him on loan. Especially considering he isn’t long in the door.
Bizot has international and experience in both the Eredivisie and Ligue 1 competitions. He isn’t likely to be allowed to depart so easily. Even if there is a compulsory clause in the contract that means Celtic need to purchase him, it weakens Brest substantially.
It would be interesting to know how much the value their goalkeeper at if we were to make our move for him on a permanent basis. We need to bolster our backup ranks in any case, with Vasilis Barkas looking like a prime candidate to depart at some stage.
And heading into the new year, it’s Bizot who looks like he’s the most in-form of any goalkeeping target we’ve been linked with over the last few months. Let’s see if we make our move.
