Celtic have been linked again with the Dutch midfielder Mark Diemers. The Bhoys were reported to be in for the Fortuna Sittard man by Dutch media last month and now it’s the turn of their neighbours.

Belgian outlet Walfoot have reported that we’re one of a number of clubs in for the 25-year-old. Freiburg and a host of Eredivisie clubs are also said to be interested in the former De Graafschap man.
Diemers has caught the eye during his first season at Fortuna Sittard. The central-midfielder netted seven goals and notched the same amount of assists as Fortuna narrowly avoided relegation from the Eredivisie.

Do we need another midfielder?
There’s an argument that we would be better served focusing our efforts and finances on the positions that are badly in need of repair.
Our midfield is undoubtedly the strongest part of our team at present. On our books right now we have Scott Brown, Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie as well as the likes of Olivier Ntcham and Nir Bitton. The club also possess a number of attractive youngsters who can play in the role – most notably Ewan Henderson.

We’re also said to be keen on bringing David Turnbull to the club this summer. That means that Diemers could become our sixth or seventh centre-midfielder. It seems strange to have such a surplus of talent in that area of the pitch while the likes of right and left-back are so exposed.
The 25-year-old has shown a good level of talent in a well-respected league. If the price is right then we should definitely look to make a move this summer. But it should be by no means a priority.
