Former Celtic target Romain Perraud has officially completed his move to Ligue 1 outfit Brest.
The youngster has signed a four-year deal with the French side after leaving Nice. It comes after Celtic didn’t make an official approach for him despite reported interest earlier this summer (Scottish Sun).
The left-back was apparently on a list of players Neil Lennon wanted to secure for cover at left-back. In the end, of course, Celtic decided to splash out on Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo.
There was no reported move for Perraud, and the move to Brest seemed to go through fairly unchallenged. It looks from the outside as though Celtic were simply happy to let him move on without looking into it.

Celtic currently have Boli and Kieran Tierney available at left-back. They also called back Andrew Gutman from his loan spell with Charlotte Independence for the summer training camp in Austria and Switzerland. His future remains up in the air.
Ex-Celtic target Romain Perraud was never an essential buy
It’s fair to say that, for the moment, we don’t need any further recruits at left-back. There’s no guarantee that Tierney departs for Arsenal or Napoli this summer. If he doesn’t, then we already have three at left-back not including Jonny Hayes too.

If Tierney departs, however, it could easily see us spring into action for further cover. But Perraud likely wouldn’t have liked the idea of coming to Glasgow and playing second or third fiddle throughout the campaign.
So this isn’t a move that will hurt Celtic or frustrate the supporters to any real degree. There are many more important things on the supporters’ minds at the moment.

As left-back is pretty much all sewn up in terms of recruitment, right-back certainly isn’t. The latest on that is that former Leicester defender Danny Simpson could be coming to Parkhead on a trial (Scottish Sun). Make of that what you will, but it’s not exactly us splashing out on a new replacement for Mikael Lustig.
The transfer window continues to rumble on in any case, and there remains plenty of time to get deals done between now and the close of the window on September 2nd.
