Celtic-linked Victor Wanyama’s performance certainly didn’t go down well with Tottenham Hotspur fans yesterday.
The powerful Kenyan was substituted on during the second-half of Spurs’ 2-1 loss at Leicester. He failed to make much of an impact, but was nowhere near the worst on the field either.

Neil Lennon previously admitted that he was after Wanyama in the closing stages of the summer transfer window (Scottish Sun). It was Lenny who brought the midfielder over to British football back in 2011.
And, as he made his first appearance of the season for the London club, Spurs fans seemingly decided to use him as a scapegoat.

Wanyama hate a lot worse than we may have thought
Wanyama has done an extremely good turn for Spurs over the last three years. He’s made 94 appearances over the course of his period there, and notched 13 goals too. For a CDM, that’s not a bad return going forward.
It’s also worth remembering that his appearance against Leicester was just his first of the season. He hasn’t featured against anyone else. Trying to blame him for Spurs’ pathetic second-half display yesterday is going over the top.

His last game before Leicester was on May 12th against Everton. You could forgive him for being a tad rusty.
In any case, it’s clear their supporters aren’t too keen on him. Generally, there appears to be a feeling of disappointment in what Wanyama has been offering up recently.
And, with a bit of luck, that could bode well for us ahead of January. Mauricio Pochettino seems to be under pressure from supporters to get rid of him. And with Celtic fans so desperately wanting the big Kenyan back, this could hopefully work in our favour.

Of course, Pochettino hasn’t actually stated that he wants Wanyama to leave. His appearance yesterday, meanwhile, could also suggest that there are plans for him in London. But you have to take this as a positive as a Celtic fan.
Hopefully, Wanyama’s relationship with the Spurs fans remains strained. It would give us a greater chance of nabbing him should we make a move in the mid-season.
