Celtic are in the hunt for teenage central-defender Mitchell Roberts, according to reports.
The Sun say that the Birmingham City man is a transfer target for Neil Lennon, and the Hoops could even edge English champions Manchester City to the signing.

It’s reckoned that the fact the Scottish transfer window is still open until Monday could give Celtic the advantage in the hunt for the promising 18-year-old.
Roberts only signed his first professional contract earlier this summer. However, he is understood to be available if the right offer comes in for his services.

Roberts would have a chance to shine at Celtic
We’re not exactly blessed for centre-back cover at present. Outside of our top three options – Christopher Jullien, Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic – we don’t really have too much cover. Israeli duo Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed can both fill in there but centre-back is neither’s preferred position.
Jack Hendry’s days at the club are numbered while youngster Liam Morrison only recently moved to Bayern Munich.

The truth is that, if Roberts joins, he wouldn’t be all that far away from the first-team.
Celtic scouring English football for some untapped talent has become a theme of this summer’s window. Already we’ve signed Irish duo Luca Connell and Jonathan Afolabi from Bolton and Southampton respectively. Big things are expected of both but probably not until later seasons.
A move for Roberts would signal a similar intent from the club and that’s to be applauded. It’s great that they’re looking out for the future of the squad. Some fans would just wish they put the same effort into recruitment for the current first-team.
