Celtic opted to loan out several players during the January transfer window and haven’t stopped in their attempts to trim the squad since.

Mikey Johnston, Hyeokkyu Kwon and Marco Tilio were among those to depart elsewhere in the winter, allowing Brendan Rodgers to streamline his squad heading into the second half of the campaign.

Nevertheless, the revolving Parkhead exit door hasn’t closed despite the Scottish market not being open again until the summer.

Due to his well-documented off-field issues, Israeli winger Liel Ababa left Parkhead to join Major League Soccer outfit Charlotte FC in a permanent transfer, which will net the Bhoys a fee in the region of £10 million.

Of course, Argentinian left-back Alexandro Bernabei has also packed his bags, linking up with Brazilian giants Internacional on a loan deal for the remainder of 2024.

Hoops boss Rodgers revealed he allowed the 23-year-old to seek new pastures amid his limited opportunities for regular minutes in Glasgow’s east end.

He stated: “His chances, I could only be open and honest and say it would be limited here. That chance to go to Brazil, the team he’s gone with has an Argentinian coach – hopefully he can play regular football.”

Celtic loanee Alexandro Bernabei in bizarre flight mishap

Bernabei never really got going at Celtic and was prone to some erratic moments alongside brief flickers of promise during his 28 appearances in green and white, where he registered one goal and three assists [Transfermarkt].

He also found himself in hot water with Rodgers last year due to sleeping in for a team meeting, which cost him a place in the matchday squad for our 4-2 victory over Ross County on the season’s opening day.

Strangely enough, the former Argentina Under-23 international is now at the centre of another peculiar situation after missing a connecting flight from Amsterdam to South America ahead of Internacional’s Copa Brasil match against Nova Iguacu, which takes place tonight (23:00 GMT) [Daily Record].

Now, Bernabei’s debut has been delayed as he wouldn’t have made it in time to be involved for his new club.

The outlet also notes that he isn’t registered for their next clash against Juventude, and he may now not feature until the international break is over.

It is important to mention that it is unclear if Bernabei had anything to do with the hold-up that will see the defender have to wait for a chance to impress on his new venture.

Nevertheless, let’s hope he can hit the ground running when the time comes, as his Celtic career looks virtually over, barring a miraculous change in circumstances.
