Celtic loanee Maryan Shved was due to take part in a colossal match for Kapaty Lviv at Shakhtar Donetsk yesterday, but was unfortunately ruled out through injury.
The match was Lviv’s third since returning from their winter break. Shved would’ve likely been eyeing that game up as a real chance to impress his parent club.
Donetsk of course reached the Champions League group stages, going unbeaten against both Lyon and Hoffenheim respectively.
In the end, Shved may have been a tad happy he did miss out, however. Lviv were on the end of a 5-0 mauling by the Ukrainian champions, who never let up for 90 minutes.
The result continues a dodgy return to action for Karpaty since the break. They’ve played three matches and only managed to win one of them. That was the 4-0 hammering at Vorskla in which Shved scored a hat-trick.
Since then, however, they suffered a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to FC Lviv in a local derby. That was the last game before the doing off Donetsk.
Hopefully nothing too serious
Hopefully Shved’s injury isn’t serious. Celtic fans will want to get more of a glimpse of his progress in Ukraine before he returns to Scotland. Performances such as his one-man show in Vorskla would certainly be welcomed between now and the end of the season.

So far this season, Shved has 11 goals and three assists in 19 outings for Lviv. His stats on the park are extremely impressive, but we all know that doesn’t tell the whole story.
Karpaty, meanwhile, sit eighth – just nine points above bottom of the league and one place below local rivals Lviv. Shved will be hoping he can get back on the pitch as soon as possible to change that.
There’s been no confirmation about what the nature of Shved’s injury actually is. All we can hope is that it isn’t too serious ahead of his return to Celtic Park in the summer.
