Celtic loanee Olivier Ntcham has endured a rough start to life at Olympique Marseille.

So, he’ll be delighted to have made his debut in a win for the Southern French giants. Ntcham featured as Marseille comfortably dealt with Auxerre, in a 2-0 win for Les Olympiens [Eurosport].

Dario Benedetto and Bamba Dieng were on the scoresheet for L’OM in a Coupe de France Last 64 win. Ntcham came off the bench at half-time, in an appearance that will have relieved any lingering nerves. Although he couldn’t get on the scoresheet, he impressed Marseille supporters with his direct running and impetus.

Celtic midfielder Ntcham impresses L’OM supporters

If you’re au fait with un petit peu de Francais, you’ll recognise these favourable sentiments from Marseille fans on Twitter:

It’s good to see Ntcham finding some joy in his football. Regardless of how we feel about Celtic, we can’t force players to enjoy their time here. Continuously misused by Neil Lennon, it never seemed like he could fit into the Lurgan man’s tactics.

Olivier Ntcham is, foremost, a deep-lying playmaker. While he can also be used as a number 10, he’s more of an energetic central midfielder who uses clever running and a wide range of passing to create opportunities.

If Celtic do indeed lose the Frenchman for what we paid for him, it’ll have been a tremendous waste for everyone concerned. Ntcham may feel he’s not fulfilled his potential in the East End of Glasgow. Over 147 appearances for the Bhoys [Transfermarkt], he started so well but his Hoops career floundered over the last two years.
