Celtic loanee suffers nightmare injury days after completing move, could be out for three months

Celtic look to have adopted a strategy of loaning out some players to SPFL clubs to keep an eye on their progress at close quarters.

Hyeokkyu Kwon has moved to St Mirren on a temporary basis and was hailed by manager Stephen Robinson after his debut performance against Queen of the South in the Scottish Cup.

The Northern Irishman said of the South Korea Under-23 international: “Kwon’s not played in months, but he’s a good player and just needs game time.”

On a wider point, Brendan Rodgers will be keen to echo Robinson’s sentiment to ensure his fringe men gain regular senior opportunities elsewhere.

Adam Montgomery is another player in need of first-team minutes and had a similar impact to Kwon in his first game after heading on loan to Motherwell, recording an assist against Alloa Athletic last weekend [Transfermarkt].

Making an initial breakthrough at Celtic back in 2021, the 21-year-old has made 20 appearances in green and white, though he has never fully held down a place as a regular starter.

Celtic loanee Adam Montgomery suffers nightmare injury

Days into his loan at Motherwell, The Scottish Sun report that Montgomery has suffered a serious hamstring injury and may be sidelined for three months.

The outlet claim that he will need to go for scans to find out the full extent of the issue, which has added even more pressure on Stuart Kettlewell’s threadbare squad.

On a personal note, the Celtic youngster will have to recover from the setback at Fir Park in his own time. However, once he returns, added competition could be present as the Steelmen assess their options on the left-hand side of the defence.

Hopefully, Montgomery can get back up to full fitness sooner rather than later ahead of a return to Parkhead in the summer.

Whether he has a future at the club or not, he will enjoy a decent career given his level of talent.
