Celtic should move fast to bring French defender Papy Djilobodji to Parkhead.

The once AWOL defender is heavily linked for a return to Ligue 1 with Guingamp.

However, the experienced centre-back could be the replacement needed for either Dedryck Boyata or Filip Benkovic next year.

Celtic can offer Djilobodji stability

Brendan Rodgers can offer the 30-year-old some stability with the Scottish champions.

Djilobodji went through a controversial exit with Sunderland at the start of the season and has been without a club since.

However, Celtic are crying out for a permanent defender of his stature, experience and ability.

The former Black Cats stopper has played for Nantes, Chelsea, Werder Bremen and Dijon in the last three and a half years.

Joining The Bhoys would allow Djilobodji a club he can settle at, and the fans will adore him.

However, the media and fans may not take kindly to the player due to the nature of his Sunderland disappearance in September.

Brendan Rodgers is the perfect manager for him

Sunderland were a team in disarray at the time but are now finding their feet with Scotsman Jack Ross.

With Rodgers as his coach and guide, Djilobodji would be able to put his career back in order.

The pressures of winning every game and playing European football should be enough to lure the big name defender to the Hoops.

The ex-Chelsea man grew under the radar with Nantes before getting a massive move to England for the relatively low price of £2.7 million.

His previous clubs prove the Senagalease has something about him, but hasn’t found the right club since leaving France.

Unfortunately, a return to Brittany with Guingamp looks to be on the cards as he will hook up with former Sunderland team-mate Didier Ndong.

However, as a free agent, Celtic would need to move fast if Rodgers desires him.
