Celtic should put their money where their mouth is and sign Southampton’s Cedric Soares.

The Hoops sorely need a right-back and are in the market for one with many being linked this window.

Manager Brendan Rodgers understands, however, that money must be spent to acquire one.

Southampton links could help seal Soares deal

Rodgers can seal a deal for the Portugese international by using the club’s well renowned relationship with the English Premier League side.

The Saints have already taken many Celtic players south with great success.

The likes of Victor Wanyama, Fraser Forster, Stuart Armstrong and Virgil van Dijk have made the move.

It’s about time one of Southampton’s players goes north to help The Hoops.

Soares fits the bill all fans want and Rodgers will be familiar with him from his time as Liverpool manager – another club famed for deals with Southampton.

It would also be a massive coup for Celtic and put the club in good stead.

Soares deal would make a statement

Some Celtic fans believe the club is going through an average transfer window.

Only one permanent deal with a few loan deals isn’t exactly mesmerising for a team needing improvements around the pitch.

Rodgers also doesn’t want to stockpile players and wants quality signings that will improve the team.

He said: “We know we have areas that we want to improve on in the team but we can only do that with players that will actually make us better.

“They have to really be able to make a genuine difference.”

By making Soares a target, Celtic would finally have a target who could make a difference. He is a 27-year-old Portuguese international playing in the English Premier League.

Celtic can’t scope many better than that to come to the club and Rodgers should realise this.
