Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart will be wearing the number one jersey in between the sticks for the Hoops next season.

The 35-year-old joined the club last summer and played a big role for Ange Postecoglou’s side as they went on to lift a league and cup double.

On his arrival, the goalkeeper was placed straight into the starting line-up and firmly established himself as the prime pick week-to-week.

Although Hart was always seen as the number one, with Vasilias Barkas holding that number, the former Englishman decided to sport the number 15 shirt on the back of his top.

However, after Barkas recently completed his loan move to Dutch side Utrecht, the club have this afternoon confirmed that the former Manchester City man will be wearing the number one shirt from next season.

It may only be seen as a small gesture, but one that is very much deserved for Hart after a brilliant first campaign in Glasgow. It’s symbolic of his importance to the club right now.

Thousands of supporters across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are interacting positively with the post, demonstrating his popularity.

The shot-stopper had many doubters when he came to Parkhead. However, they were quickly put to bed after a series of impressive performances from the veteran goalkeeper.

Celtic look as though they are close to adding to their goalkeeping ranks, with recent reports suggesting that Dundee United stopper Benjamin Siegrist is close to joining the club.

However, it is expected that he will play second fiddle, and Hart will continue to be Postecoglou’s number one going into the 2022/23 campaign.

It has been great to see the ex-England internationalist kick start his career at Parkhead, and he has shown why the Celtic manager was so keen to bring him in last summer.

Hopefully, this can provide him with a confidence boost going into another new campaign, and we can continue to see top performances from Hart on a regular basis.
