Celtic should make a move for Timothy Weah before he’s unattainable

If Celtic want to nab PSG and USA under-20 star Timothy Weah, they really should look to do it as soon as possible.

Weah is off with his international team for the under-20 World Cup at the moment. This came after an unceremonious parting of the ways with Celtic during a six-month loan spell at the club. Weah’s loan deal was cut short, and he confirmed manager Neil Lennon made the decision on him (Instagram).

It came after it was reported that Weah didn’t want to return for the Scottish Cup final (Daily Record). Whether that’s true or not will only be known by the striker, the USA camp, and Lennon.

Weah then came out and said that he would be willing to return to Parkhead on loan once again (Scottish Sun). No offer for his services have as of yet been reported.

Under-20 exploits could stop us

So why do Celtic need to make such a quick move on him? Well, if the Hoops want him, it would be ideal if they could try and get a deal done before Weah tears it up in the latter stages of the Under-20 World Cup.

It’s pretty much undoubted that clubs will be sending scouts to Poland to see what’s on offer. Weah’s game-winning goal against Qatar was simply sublime, and has set his country up for a mouth-watering clash against France in the last-16 tomorrow.

For those who haven’t seen Weah’s goal from yesterday, you can watch it below:

Similar moments of quality against the likes of France, and some serious financial powerhouses could be taking an interest. That includes Premier League opposition from down south.

There’s going to come a point where Weah has outgrown Celtic. There will be a time when we can’t afford him, and he’ll move on to bigger and better things. But at this moment in time, it seems criminal from Celtic not to pursue a move for him.

Considering he’s openly stated he’s open to a Parkhead return, why shouldn’t we launch a bid? Especially before bigger clubs start circling around him.

It feels like the iron is hot on Weah. Celtic’s best chance of a move, if they want him, would be if they struck now. But, unfortunately, there’s no sign of that happening just yet.
