Celtic star Anthony Ralston has stepped up for Scotland over the international break as he continues to put on reliable showings under Steve Clarke.

Despite having the unenviable challenge of competing with Alistair Johnston for a starting slot, the Lennoxtown graduate appears to have found himself under Steve Clarke during the Nations League campaign.

Six starts have fallen his way as Scotland continue to have problems at right-back, and Anthony Ralston’s displays in wins against Croatia and Poland have helped to repay the faith of his manager.

Whether he manages to hold down the berth long-term remains to be seen once Aaron Hickey, Nathan Patterson and Max Johnston return. Still, there is no doubt he is capable of performing against elite-level opponents when called upon.

Transitioning back to club duties, Ralston has delivered a class Instagram message as Celtic prepare for their return to action away to Heart of Midlothian.

Taking to the social media platform, Ralston posted a series of snaps from his involvement against Poland and Croatia as Scotland narrowly clung on to their Nations League League A status for now.

Summing up how he is feeling after another positive couple of outings, he simply wrote ‘Successful camp’ following a decisive contribution for his national side.

While the Scottish Premiership takes precedence now, Ralston and his teammates will find out their play-off opponents in the Nations League tomorrow.

They face one of Greece, Austria, Turkey or Ukraine, which may offer the Celtic man another opportunity to test himself in a high-stakes environment for his country.

Anthony Ralston there for Celtic if needed

Although there is a general understanding of Brendan Rodgers’ pecking order at Celtic, there is no reason to say there won’t be change over the coming months amid a loaded fixture schedule.

More than likely, everyone will need to play their part as the Bhoys seek further silverware following an excellent start to the season.

While Ralston is expected to return to the sidelines this weekend, don’t be surprised to see him claim an opportunity or two in the near future.
