Celtic winger Lewis Morgan has sent a social media message thanking Sunderland for his time at the Stadium of Light.

The former St Mirren star was reunited with former boss Jack Ross in January. His six-month loan stint in Wearside ended with the club coming within just 90 minutes of promotion. In the end, however, Sunderland would lose out 2-1 to Charlton Athletic at Wembley in the League One playoff final.

Morgan’s campaign was a bit of a roller-coaster personally too. Overall, he managed a fine 22 appearances with the Black Cats. But in the end, he only managed two goals but did bag four assists. It’s not the greatest of numbers but not the worst either.

He got the first-team experience he was after, and in total, racked up 35 appearances for both Celtic and Sunderland this season respectively.

And speaking on Twitter, this is what Morgan had to say:

A massive career decision awaits

So Morgan now returns to Celtic Park looking to write the next chapter in his footballing career. But the big decision he needs to make is whether he can do that at Parkhead or not.

At the moment, Scott Sinclair and Jonny Hayes are both ahead of him down the left. If Neil Lennon chooses to operate Maryan Shved out there, it’s likely that would push Morgan down to fourth choice. That’s not even taking into account the prospect of any fresh signings in that position either.

Last season, Morgan managed to rack up 13 Celtic appearances. Disappointingly from a Hoops perspective, the winger didn’t impress in many of them. He looked like he had a lot more to give, and his move to Sunderland was supposed to see him burst onto the scene.

But in the end, Morgan has come back without really making the impact we all hoped he would’ve. And to say another loan decision isn’t on the cards would be going a tad far. Morgan still needs first-team experience on a weekly basis, and he doesn’t look like getting that at Celtic for now.

There is, of course, the prospect of following in the footsteps of the likes of Ryan Christie and Kristoffer Ajer. Moving to another club in Scotland could help him gain more confidence in the Premiership. As of yet, however, no reports of an offer for him has been released.

But Morgan simply has to pick the right move. His Celtic career pretty much depends on it.
