Celtic attacker Ryan Christie has reflected on his emotional Scotland heroics that left him speechless during his post-match interview.
Christie gained national recognition around the UK when he gave a teary-eyed interview with Sky Sports back in November. It came immediately after Scotland had beaten Serbia in their Euro 2020 playoff final in Belgrade. Christie was one of the heroes after bagging the goal that would lead us to penalties. A historic 5-4 success saw us end a 22-year major wait to reach a finals.
His post-match interview did the rounds on Twitter as he struggled to get his words out. The emotion was clear to see, with the Celtic playmaker stood with his hands on his heads in sheer disbelief.
Christie, unsurprisingly, has been called up for Euro 2020. He’s been speaking to Tennant’s Lager for their “Made for This” campaign, and said the following:
“It was ridiculous, I just remember trying to put some sort of words together.
“Anybody that speaks to me about that night, they obviously say congratulations on the game, but the main thing they’ve taken from it is the interview afterward and saying they got a bit choked up as well.
“I would have never thought in a million years that I would be part of the squad that did it. It’s a dream come true. I think everybody’s just desperate to have that feeling of football fever over the summer again. To think of the whole nation behind us, walking out at Hampden on home turf, it’s incredible. We’re determined to do everything we can to keep the dream going.”
Ryan Christie can turn a lot of heads with Scotland this summer
Putting his club situation aside, it was superb to see Christie score such a crucial goal in Serbia. One of monumental importance to everyone in the country regardless of what team you support. It was a surreal moment, as he finally stood up to be counter for his country.
We’ll all be wanting him to shine at the Euros this summer too. Not only because he deserves it thanks to his efforts during qualification, but for more selfish reasons too.
An impressive tournament this summer could seriously turn some heads. If Christie shines on a stage like this, it could help Celtic rake in a fee for his services as opposed to seeing him leave for nothing in January.

The games couldn’t be more high-profile either. Czech Republic, England, and Croatie will be Scotland’s foes in the group stages. The second of those ties is at Wembley. Christie and Celtic fans will know how big a starring role there could be for him this summer.
It’s becoming clearer and clearer that he isn’t going to sign a new contract. That puts Celtic into a position where we need to try and get him out the door in order to bag some funds. Anything we can get, considering the size of our own rebuild, would be hugely helpful.
Hopefully, Christie can take his previous international form into the tournament and not his current club run. If he does, it’ll be beneficial to all parties.
In other news, Celtic have been struck with a potential Josh Doig blow thanks to a fresh report.
