Celtic matches heading to TNT Sports next season; BT Sport no more

BT Sport as we know it will disappear from our screens this summer following a major rebrand announcement today, The Guardian reports, with Celtic’s European games set for a new channel called TNT Sports.

Back in May 2022, BT announced a deal with Warner Bros Discovery to launch a new sports pay-TV service, bringing together rights for the UEFA Champions League, English Premier League and the Olympics, amongst others.

This afternoon, it was announced that this venture would be called TNT Sports, replacing the group’s existing sports channels, which also include Eurosport. The switchover will happen between football seasons.

What does TNT Sports mean for viewers and Celtic matches?

TNT Sports will be included on Sky and Virgin services, so if you’re already watching there, not too much will change.

However, it is currently unknown what kind of changes, if any, will be made to subscriptions in terms of cost. No guarantees have been given at the time of publishing.

Currently, it costs £28 to add BT Sports to a Sky Sports package though other rates are available on other platforms or depending on who your broadband provider is.

The Athletic has reported that TNT Sports’ portfolio will also be included on the Discovery Plus app, which is one of the many monthly subscription services available on mobile devices and TV boxes.

For Celtic fans, it now means all of our UEFA ties from the playoff stage onwards will be shown on the new service, so it’s undoubtedly something to keep an eye on.

BT re-purchased the rights to show UEFA’s club tournaments last summer, with the deal in place until at least 2027, meaning this will be the Bhoys’ new home for Euro football for quite a while.

Celtic fans’ money is split between three subscription services with the Scottish Premiership shown on Sky Sports and the cup competitions featured on Viaplay Sport. Those situations are unaffected by today’s news.
