Celtic and the rest of football may have to get used to a new proposal by FIFA to change the laws around injuries.
Leagues currently set their own guidelines, with the Scottish Premiership requiring players to spend 30 seconds off the field after receiving treatment.
This is only when physios have been required to come onto the pitch and is in place to stop sides deliberately timewasting, but FIFA want to do even more.
Why are Celtic’s disciplinary issues getting worse?
How do we solve this issue?
FIFA proposing players have one minute off to stop timewasting
According to BBC Sport, FIFA are set to propose increasing the time players have to spend off the pitch from 30 seconds to one minute.
This will be brought up at the International Football Association Board meeting this weekend as the footballing organisation believe that the current timeframe hasn’t done enough to stop teams using it as a tactical way to slow the game down.
During a trial at the Arab Cup, a two-minute rule was imposed to see how it would work, which could cause more debate for players.
How this could benefit Celtic
This could be a benefit for Celtic, especially in league games, when they often have to deal with teams trying to timewaste.
As the Hoops tend to have the lion’s share of possession, teams will look to gain any sort of advantage if they take a surprise lead or are holding on for a point.
VAR in Scottish football: incompetent refs, bad technology or both?
That includes a suspect injury here and there, but with a one minute timeframe instead of 30 seconds, that may put opposition sides off.
