Celtic midfielder Liam Shaw last night suffered an unfortunate injury setback with Motherwell after having to come off on only his second start with a head injury.
The Hoops-owned talent is on loan at Fir Park between now and the end of the season. He recently made his first start for the club at Tynecastle over the weekend. However, despite breaking into the starting XI, he’s almost instantaneously received a frustrating blow.
Shaw had to be hooked on the 39th minute after taking a cut to the head that caused consistent bleeding. The extent of the injury has yet to be clarified by Motherwell or their boss Graham Alexander:
Celtic and Shaw will be hoping that the injury is just a short-term one in what’s a massively important stage of the player’s career.
Celtic take the trip to Fir Park this weekend. However, Shaw will be ineligible due to the fact he’s on loan from the Hoops.
Motherwell would end up drawing the match 1-1 in Paisley last night, with a last-gasp equaliser sparing their blushes.
Liam Shaw doesn’t have time for a spell on the sidelines
There’s something incredibly frustrating about this if it does lead to a short stint on the sidelines. Shaw needs momentum between now and the end of the season, not setbacks.
This can be the issue with half-season loan deals. One nasty injury knock and it can seriously damage the time you have to make an impact during your time there.
Hopefully that doesn’t happen with Shaw, and we certainly don’t want to jump to conclusions. With a bit of luck we get an update on this at some stage today, but head knocks are never a pleasant sign.

The fact that the injury is a cut and hopefully not a concussion will hopefully lead to some promising news in the coming days. But if it was bad enough to take the player off, that also gives you some fear.
Shaw was a standout for Motherwell at Tynecastle, and statistically speaking was ranked as their best player on the night.
It’s just a shame he wasn’t given much of a chance to do the same in Paisley last night. Fingers crossed Liam’s injury is only minor.
