Celtic look set to be backed by a huge travelling army of fans in Valencia for the second leg of the Europa League clash.
The Spanish sports website AS reports that around 10,000 Celtic fans are set to head to Spain for the game, despite the Hoops having only 2,500 tickets.
Great support when tie seems over
That kind of commitment is admirable, especially when you consider that the Hoops are 2-0 down in the tie.
Those fans deserve their faith to be rewarded with a performance on the night. Although the chances of that happening are debatable.
Hoops should throw caution to the wind
The Hoops aren’t the best of travellers in Europe. For example, in the same stage of the competition last season they slumped to a 3-0 loss to Zenit St Petersburg.
The number of fans in Russia though won’t be anywhere near the number who are travelling to Spain. And those fans deserve the right to see the Hoops make a fist of the tie.
Winning the league title might be more important. But that doesn’t mean that the Hoops should just give up on the game.
There’s nothing to lose, so go out and try to play attacking football that is the Celtic way. If it ends up with the Bhoys suffering a heavy defeat then so be it.
But don’t go out and meekly surrender in the second leg. The 10,000 fans deserve far more than that.
