Celtic need Callum McGregor more than Kieran Tierney

If push comes to shove, Callum McGregor is the man to lead the future Celtic celebrations.

The Scotland international’s qualities aren’t in doubt and the fans know it.

Similarly, Kieran Tierney is subject to interest from Arsenal and Napoli.

The majority don’t want him to leave either, but McGregor is needed more than Tierney.

Purely based on speculation, McGregor should have his sights on remaining with Celtic.

The 24-year-old is set for life at the club and will take a very important role. He is captain material and should be first in line to take the reins from Scott Brown.

Similarly to Stephen McManus, McGregor has been at the club since birth and quietly made his way to the top of the tree.

The jury is out on his leadership skills at the moment, but his journey is inspiring.

Tierney is also in a similar vein but there are subtle differences between the two.

Left-backs are sorely needed at the top level meaning Tierney has a higher ceiling.

He may also want to go and prove himself down south but is too far from getting close to Celtic captaincy.

Tierney can go and be the best left-back in Europe, but McGregor will give more to the Hoops in the long run.

Don’t underestimate Callum McGregor

As stated before, McGregor’s rise will help a lot of youths.

A boy from the east end of Glasgow playing in the street to becoming potential captain material should be idolised.

McGregor could play in the English Premier League no problem.

However, like Brown, he knows what’s truly best for his footballing career.

McGregor can walk into a team down south. England is a goldfish bowl and if he did fail there it would be a dent in his career.

McGregor’s improving ability in several areas will leave him one of Celtic’s most decorated players.

Hopefully, the current captain is giving him advice in that regard.
