Callum McGregor is the absolute heartbeat of Celtic and has helped the team through many trophy-winning moments.

Losing the influential captain in the summer would be an unthinkable disaster for Celtic. Yet, a terrifying new warning from Frank McAvennie suggests that nightmare could actually become a reality.

When discussing McGregor’s long-term future, the former Celtic striker dropped a massive bombshell. Asked if the club would get at least another season out of their leader, McAvennie bluntly replied, “I don’t think so.”

Pushed on whether McGregor will definitely be away next season, McAvennie expressed his fears, stating, “I think he will be away.”

He then pointed directly to the unimaginable riches of Saudi Arabia and a reunion with former manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Frank McAvennie has claimed that Callum McGregor will leave Celtic for Saudi Arabia

Replacing a player of McGregor’s magnitude is nearly impossible.

If that financial temptation proves too great for the retired Scotland international, the upcoming summer rebuild will instantly transform into an absolute crisis.

It is a massive source of frustration that even when Celtic are winning doubles and looking invincible on the pitch, the hierarchy still completely fails to secure the high-calibre signings needed to take the next step.

So, imagine what will happen if McGregor leaves in the summer and moves to Saudi Arabia, as McAvennie suggested on his Let Me Be Frank Podcast.

McAvennie: “McGregor went off because he (O’Neill) said, ‘I am going to give you an hour.'”

Simon Houston: “Callum isn’t going to disappear overnight, at least another season out of Callum.”

McAvennie: “I don’t think so.”

Houston: “Do you think we will see him next year? Do you think he will be away?”

McAvennie: “I think he will be away.”

Houston: “Where else can he go? Go and join Brendan?”

McAvennie: “Saudi. I hope not. I hope I am totally wrong. But I wouldn’t blame the boy for going. I wouldn’t blame him for going and making his money. He has made money, don’t get me wrong. He would go there, make more in two years than he did in his 15 years at Celtic.”
