Celtic are not interested in Alberth Elis anymore - Report

Celtic’s reported interest in Alberth Elis has been denied by the Daily Record, a story that will disappoint many Hoops fans.

Elis, currently of Houston Dynamo, has 22 goals for the MLS side. He’s also made 15 assists this season alone from his position down the right flank.

There were rumours of a £6million bid being offered for the Honduran by a European club. That club was supposed to be Celtic as they look to continue strengthening their squad this month.

Unfortunately, the Record has denied this is the case. Instead, they state that there is absolutely no interest from Celtic in the winger.

As disappointing as this is, you have to say it’s expected too.

Celtic have already signed Oliver Burke in this transfer window until the end of the season. Therefore, there’s no overwhelming need for yet another right-winger.

The Hoops have other priority targets including a couple of strikers, a right-back, and a centre-back. It would be worth the club splashing the cash on these positions to improve them substantially.

Disappointing that there’s nothing in this one

Despite that, however, it’s disappointing to see there’s likely nothing in this one. Elis is an extremely lively winger who’s tore the MLS apart. Considering the rapidly-growing nature of that competition, it’s no mean feat.

With James Forrest already down the right and Burke as back-up, spending that money is perhaps unnecessary.

Elis had told Mexican TV that he wanted to leave the club. Houston, however, are desperate to keep him. Celtic, therefore, probably wouldn’t fancy going over the top for a position in which they don’t need to strengthen.

As we roll into the second week of January, it’s good to see the club linked with so many players.

The likes of Timothy Castagne, Vakoun Issouf Bayo, and Timothy Weah have all been highly linked with moves to Parkhead already. Weah is on his way on-loan from PSG, whilst a deal for Bayo surely isn’t far away.

Regardless, Elis can be added to the list of players Celtic have been linked with. It’s good for supporters to see that the club are looking to get active.

They certainly need to.
