Celtic have been offered a reminder that none of their players are safe from moves away yet, after Zenit St. Petersburg were linked with James Forrest.
The Scottish Sun are reporting that the Russian champions are keen on the Hoops winger with a £12million bid soon to be in the offing.
They also say that the Champions League side want to give the Scotland man a bumper contract worth £70,000 per week. Zenit have until September 6th to finalise any move, with the Scottish window closing four days earlier.
Zenit interest in Forrest shows Celtic still have to be wary
The report of the Russian side’s interest just goes to show that Celtic aren’t out of the water yet this summer. We may have lost Kieran Tierney to Arsenal on the English deadline day but the market is still open for the rest of Europe.
That means that any Hoops players wanted on the continent could still be for a move.
Celtic may not want to lose a player of Forrest’s importance, and they may not even talk figures with Zenit, but the harsh reality is that every Hoops player is for sale at the right price. Even if we told Zenit a straightforward “no” then the Russians could still make us reconsider by throwing some serious money our way.
They recently completed a £40million move for Barcelona man Malcom so they clearly have the funds available. But we really can’t afford to lose Forrest. With all that’s ahead, we need to keep all of our top players at the club. Forrest in arguably our most important of the lot.
