Celtic results on April Fools Day across history

Celtic have been extremely successful on April Fools Day, only losing twice in over 30 games.

Their first match on this day was in 1893, when they beat London Caledonian 3-0 in a friendly.

1 April is also synonymous for the day that Celtic beat Dukla Prague 3-1 in the 1967 European Cup semi-final, a result that would end up helping the Lisbon Lions becoming champions.

They have also faced Rangers twice on this day, but they both sadly ended in defeat and are the only two games the Bhoys have lost when playing on that day.

Celtic players born on April Fools Day

As well as playing in some high-profile fixtures on April Fools Day, there are also some former Celtic stars who were born on this day.

Georgios Samaras stands out as the most iconic, scoring 74 goals in 243 appearances and playing a crucial role in big games such as the New Year’s Day victory at Ibrox and beating Barcelona in the Champions League.

Simon Donnelly is another April fools day birthday, coming through the academy and featuring in the 1997/98 title-winning squad that stopped nine-in-a-row.
