Celtic defender Shane Duffy has responded to a fan on Twitter who equated Brighton & Hove Albion paying part of his wages with the decision to charge English Premier League fans for pay-per-view matches.
A supporter down in England shared an image suggesting that Brighton were wrong to make supporters pay because Duffy is at Celtic and the Seagulls pay £25,000-a-week of his salary.
Duffy put the record straight, stating on the social media site: “Someone sent me this feel like have to respond. Celtic pay my full wages sorry. Still don’t think it’s right to charge 15 quid for a match though.”
Salary tracking website Spotrac suggests that Duffy has a contract at Brighton worth around £40,000-a-week, which would make him one of the highest earners in the Scottish Premiership if Celtic are indeed paying it all.
Still, so far, it’s proven to be a sound investment for the champions.
Although the Republic of Ireland is still getting up to full speed at Celtic, he’s helped the team to five clean sheets in his seven matches to date, all of which have been victories.
Fans are hoping the best is yet to come from the summer signing too.
The pay-per-view issue in England right now is an emotive one but Duffy clearly feels it was unfair to drag him into it, even if he has sympathy for fans of his parent club.
