Celtic player ratings vs Aberdeen as unbelievable game ends in disappointment

Celtic threw away a two-goal advantage as an error-strewn second-half cost Brendan Rodgers and his men three points at Parkhead.

Reo Hatate opened the scoring for a ruthless Celtic in the first-half with a well-taken first time finish inside the box after Kyogo cut the ball back.

It was 2-0 soon after through the Japanese striker and it looked like the Bhoys would go on to rack up a cricket score.

But after the interval, Aberdeen made two subs and the game started to flip on its head. The Dons made their way right back into the contest with goals from Ester Sokler and Graeme Shinnie as Celtic looked shaky all of a sudden.

Aberdeen had the Hoops rocked and their remarkable comeback looked complete when they seemed to have made it 3-2. But the goal was rightly chalked off for handball, much to the relief of the Celtic fans watching through their fingers.

The end to the game was thrilling as Celtic peppered Aberdeen’s goal constantly. Dimitar Mitov made some incredible saves and Duk made a massive block on the line to deny the home side.

It was a tremendous advert for Scottish football which wasn’t beamed on live TV, but it was a disappointing day in the end as Celtic’s 100% league record came to an end.

Kasper Schmeichel – 5

Did not have much to do in the first-half bar a decent stop from Leighton Clarkson’s free-kick. Conceded twice in one game in the league for the first time.

Alex Valle – 6

Mixed performance. Gave the ball away a few times and looked a little nervy in spells. Showed good flashes in the second-half including an excellent defensive recovery to deny Sokler.

Liam Scales – 6

Lost Ester Sokler for Aberdeen’s first goal but perhaps couldn’t do too much about it given how excellent the pass was from Jamie McGrath. Made a tremendous block to deny Topi Keskinen in second-half. Mixed day.

Auston Trusty – 5

He’s yet to really convince in a Celtic shirt after his £6m switch in the summer. Missed a huge chance to win the game with a header from a corner late on.

Alistair Johnston – 6

Such a robust player and wasn’t afraid to get stuck in to prevent the marauding Jack MacKenzie in his tracks.

Callum McGregor – 6

Saw plenty of the ball as Celtic built from the back. Gave the ball away a couple of times but a solid enough performance from the captain.

Reo Hatate – 8

The Japanese star’s finish for the first goal was deadly and he dominated the middle of the park throughout the encounter. Man of the match display.

Arne Engels – 7

Looked really in the mood from the off. Unlucky as he hit the bar with an audacious curling effort but influence tailed off as game went on.

Daizen Maeda – 5

Played a central part in the second goal scored by Kyogo with his cross into the box but he had a poor game throughout. His awful pass led to Aberdeen’s equaliser.

Nicolas Kuhn – 6

Always a threat when running at his full-back on the right wing and did his turn defensively when required. Not his best game though.

Kyogo – 8

Made a great run in behind for the Hatate goal as he slowed himself down and then picked a pass to set up the strike. Got on the scoresheet soon after with a close-range strike for Celtic’s second.

James Forrest (sub) – 4

Had two unbelievable chances to win the game very late on but his first was saved by Dimitar Mitov and the other wide of the post.

Paulo Bernardo (sub) – 4

Came on and performed well.

Luke McCowan (sub) – 4

Showed energy and purpose as Celtic dominated the latter stages of the game.

Adam Idah (sub) – 3

Thought he’d scored the winner but Alistair Johnston had unfortunately fouled the goalkeeper.
