Celtic take on Kilmarnock in their last assignment before the international break as they look to maintain their place at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Brendan Rodgers will be delighted with his side’s recent form, as a strong showing in the Champions League has complemented their domestic unbeaten run.

During the week, Celtic’s convincing win over Leipzig earned attention across the continent as the Irishman moved one step closer to securing knockout football at Parkhead beyond the league phase.

On the flip side, Kilmarnock arrive on home soil with two wins from their last 12 matches across all competitions. Nevertheless, they are always a tough nut to crack at Rugby Park on an artificial surface.

In a bruising fixture schedule four games in a week-and-a-half, it will be intriguing to see if Rodgers sticks to his guns or rotates the squad with the international break now around the corner.

Between the sticks, Kasper Schmeichel takes the gloves again after several important stops against Leipzig during the week, helping his side record a statement triumph on the European stage.

Central defence will be a point of contention amid Auston Trusty and Cameron Carter-Vickers’ being paired together in recent matches. Liam Scales has been the unfortunate one to drop out, but he may be given a chance to partner Carter-Vickers following his time on the bench.

Despite Anthony Ralston’s freshness, expect Alistair Johnston to retain his place at right-back before jetting off to meet his Canada teammates. At the same time, Greg Taylor gets the nod over Alex Valle to start against his former club amid his performance in midweek.

Moving on, Callum McGregor will slot into his usual deep-lying midfield berth as he takes the armband, so who will feature in front of the club captain ahead of a match likely to be fraught with physical battles?

Paulo Bernardo has been extremely unlucky not to be given more than seven starts this season. Come kick-off time on Sunday, the Portugal Under-21 international will be given another opportunity to stake his claim. Reo Hatate’s excellent form keeps him in the side, while Arne Engels earns a well-deserved rest.

Despite James Forrest, Hyunjun Yang and Luis Palma waiting in the wings, Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda are undroppable at the moment, meaning there is a high likelihood they will begin proceedings before potentially making way for alternative options at some point during the second-half.

Kyogo Furuhashi has been Rodgers’ preferred centre-forward in the last few weeks, but Adam Idah comes in up top due to his physicality and running power, which could provide a handy focal point at Rugby Park.

Squad rotation is the aim of the game for Celtic, meaning supporters are likely to see plenty of changes from the bench throughout the affair.

Your predicted XI in full is as follows: Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor, McGregor, Bernardo, Hatate, Kuhn, Maeda, Idah.
