Celtic attackers Leigh Griffiths and Karamoko Dembele were amongst the clutch of Bhoys congratulating Jonathan Afolabi on his first goal for Dundee.
The Republic of Ireland youth international started his first game for the Scottish Championship club at the weekend and didn’t take long to get on the scoresheet, rifling in a volley from 12 yards.
He took to social media site Instagram to share his joy, stating: “First start and goal, more importantly, the 3 points at home!! 😁⚽️”
He’s clearly a popular man with his peers, as a number of young Celtic players and prospects rushed to comment including Dembele, Lee O’Connor, Barry Coffey and Armstrong Oko-Flex.
Afolabi is at Dens Park for the season and will be hoping to notch up an impressive goal tally for a team chasing promotion at the top end of the table.
The 20-year-old was out on loan in the same division last season before the pandemic curtailed everything, scoring two goals in six appearances for Dunfermline.
However, he’s not been able to work his way into Neil Lennon’s first-team and another spell away from the Bhoys should be good for his development at a critical age.
Dundee fans have been left impressed by his early performances, which bodes well.
We’ll be watching his progress closely as Dundee get stuck into a heavy schedule of matches.
