I feel as if I’ve turned into a one-man Alistair Johnston fan club since joining 67 Hail Hail. The Celtic right-back has been so impressive over recent weeks that it’s kind of hard not to write about him.
But to be fair to him, his man-of-the-match performance in the Glasgow Derby has been coming.
Johnston has been drawing all the plaudits for his part in the 3-2 win over Rangers and to remind us all just how good he has been since joining in the January window, Celtic posted some very impressive stats on Twitter this afternoon.
Since that New Year debut at Ibrox, Johnston has been integral to Ange Postecoglou’s team and up until now, he has appeared in all but one fixture since January.
In that time Celtic have conceded just seven goals with Johnston in the team. Ange Postecoglou recognised the defender’s contribution to the team and praised the Canadian for his battling qualities and said that there is more to come from him.
The most impressive thing about these stats is that not only are his defensive and distribution metrics strong, the key passes – which are effectively chance creation – show that he is also contributing to the attacking phases of Celtic’s play.

At just 24 years old, I can only agree with Ange Postecoglou. There is definitely more to come from Johnston.
Looking at how he applies himself every time he pulls on the green and white hoops and how he has adapted to life at Celtic already, the right back is only going to get better.
It’s hard to believe he has only made fifteen appearances for Celtic and so early into his career, Johnston looks like he will have a great future at Parkhead and become a huge asset for the club.
