The Celtic quarter of James Forrest, Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie and Greg Taylor may get some an unexpected break before the Hoops return to action against Ross County on Saturday.
The reason for that – Scotland’s scheduled Nations League game against the Czech Republic on Monday has been called off, reports BBC Sport.
The report discloses that the Czech FA called the game off due to an outbreak of the pandemic which has affected football in the squad.
However, the report goes on to quote the Scottish FA, who at the time of writing had not received ‘official notification’ that the game was off, and had contacted UEFA.
Manager will hope issue is resolved soon
There was always a danger that games could be called off due to the pandemic, but it is still a bit unexpected. Neil Lennon and the rest of the club managers will be hoping that the issue is cleared up as soon as possible, so that players can return to their clubs.
The Hoops boss might be quite pleased that his Celtic quartet will return to the club earlier than expected. It will give him more time to work with the players ahead of the trip to Dingwall on Saturday.
It will also mean that the players get an unexpected rest instead of a trip to the Czech Republic and 90 minutes of football. In fact, the Hoops boss might tell his players not to report back to Celtic Park for a few days to let them have this unexpected break.
Trio would likely have started fixture
You would imagine that at least three of the Celtic players would have started the game, Forrest, McGregor and Christie, as happened against Israel on Friday night. Greg Taylor wasn’t involved against Israel, and would probably have had to settle for a place on the bench.
However, instead of playing in the Czech Republic, it seems that the players will be returning to Celtic Park instead.
In other news, Patryk Klimala should not be criticised for missing some chances for Celtic.
