Celtic have released a short statement on social media regarding the comments of Kris Boyd in The Scottish Sun.
The club said on Twitter: “With regards to comments made by former professional footballer Kris Boyd concerning Callum McGregor’s injury, we can confirm that the matter is currently being addressed by the club.”
It comes after Boyd expressed surprise at the fact Rangers didn’t test out McGregor’s face mask after he bravely pulled on the Hoops to face our arch-rivals.
Writing for The Scottish Sun, he said: “Look at Celtic. Callum McGregor played with a fractured cheekbone.
“The fact he managed to get through the 90 minutes without anyone testing out that face mask is another story, but his commitment to the team was tremendous.”
I’m not sure if he was hoping Rangers would try to injure the Bhoys captain or not, but they are pretty shocking and distasteful comments.
McGregor, a current Scotland international, is doing his best for his club. He confirmed after the match he is playing with breaks in two places on his face after a horror injury against Alloa.
Boyd’s comments are the last thing we need in the game and Celtic are right to address it.
What outcome of this we see is unknown, but hopefully, it involves an apology from the former Rangers man to McGregor at the very least.
In other news, Scottish FA board approve mid-season rule change that is great news for Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic.
