Celtic have been linked with a move for another player in the January transfer window – only this time it isn’t a striker.
The Scottish Sun is reporting that the Hoops are interested in signing Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Yonatan Cohen. The report claims that Celtic director of football operations Nick Hammond had the player scouted in Maccabi’s recent 4-3 win over Maccabi Haifa. In that game Cohen scored two goals.
The player is able to play through the middle as a striker, but his main position is on the wing. Celtic are in need of reinforcements in that area after the departure of Scott Sinclair, and imminent exit of Lewis Morgan.
Player is reportedly rated at £2.5 million
The report goes on to reveal that the player is under contract until 2024, but his club might find it hard to turn down any bid for Cohen, who is rated at £2.5 million.
Cohen has been in excellent form for his team this season. He has scored nine goals and has seven assists in 20 games this season. That is a more than decent return for an attacking player.
Hoops need new signing to play on the wing
Celtic really are in need of another wide player. Therefore, a move for Cohen seems to make sense. The fact that he can also play as a striker is a bonus, as the Hoops could also do with reinforcements in that area of the pitch.
However, should Cohen sign, you imagine that he will feature on the wing for the Bhoys. Celtic have yet to make any signings in the January transfer window. Cohen seems like he would be a decent start to transfer business for the Hoops.
Of course, Celtic have been linked with many players in the January window. This could be just another rumour. However, Cohen seems to have the credentials that Celtic need to be a recent signing. We shall find out soon enough if and when he moves to Glasgow.
