Celtic are set to jump up the UEFA club coefficient rankings according to reports.

The Herald say Neil Lennon’s side will be rewarded for getting into the last 32 of the Europa League.

The Scottish champions finished their group as winners in the process and will receive the points bonus.

However, everyone’s eyes will be on climbing the table again with a last 16 place.

Essentially, UEFA state that the higher ranking the team is, the better chance they have in the ‘seeding’ process.

Not only that, club performances go towards the country they represent in UEFA competitions.

The more points Celtic or Rangers get, the further Scotland will move up in the rankings allowing the country to get another Champions League qualifying spot.

So far, Scotland require two victories to get that second place back.

The Hoops are flying in Europe and have taken a lot of scalps this season including two wins against Lazio.

UEFA are sending The Bhoys up nine places in the club coefficient rankings as a result.

The Scottish champions are currently in 46th place but will go up to 37th.

Celtic are 28th overall in the coefficient rankings for this season – matching Manchester United and Inter.

The Hoops have a fantastic opportunity to build on an excellent European campaign that’s brought a lot of firsts.

Now is the time for Lennon to lead his side into their premier last 16 spot in the Europa League.

This shot in the arm for the players will only excel them towards domestic glory as well as the performances would need to be consistently high.

The embarrassment against Cluj in the qualifiers seems like a distant memory now as the Hoops chase down a European final place again.
