Celtic reportedly on verge of big rebuild announcement after talks

Celtic are closing in on confirming Fergal Harkin as the club’s new director of football, website Football Insider has reported this weekend.

The outlet reckons that advanced talks were held between the Bhoys and Harkin last week.

They’re citing an unnamed Celtic source declaring the move as “90% done.”

Harkin has spent the last 11 years at Manchester City. Football Insider say his arrival could be the start of multiple staff appointments from the English Premier League leaders.

The Irishman has been consistently linked with the newly created posted for well over a month now. It was reported by journalist Alan Nixon on 6th February that he was the name being mentioned inside Celtic Park for the position.

As we’ve discussed previously on 67 Hail Hail, Harkin already has a number of interesting ties to influential Celtic figures.

Former Celtic defender Gary Caldwell, who personally knows the Man City man, was also on Clyde 1 last week talking up his appointment.

Is the great Celtic rebuild about to begin with Fergal Harkin announcement?

As we approach April, Celtic really do need to start communicating with fans on the future of the club. A director of football announcement over the next week or so would be ideal.

I actually expected something from the club in the build-up to today’s derby. A two-week lull between fixtures was ostensibly the perfect time to make a big statement.

As many pundits have said, including our own Jackie McNamara, Celtic need to get this news out there before confirming who the next permanent manager of the club will be.

It’s imperative that the incoming director of football has a say and can explain why any new head coach has been appointed.

The sooner we can get this needed rebuild on the road officially, the better.
