Celtic reportedly have made moves to fill a key position at the club. According to the Scottish Sun, the Hoops want former West Brom director of football Nicky Hammond to take up the same role at Celtic Park.

Hammond was the technical director at West Brom until he was replaced a year ago. He was at the Championship side for two seasons. He joined from Reading, where he had been director of football for 15 years.

Hammond could be set to replace Lee Congerton. Previously,  Congerton was the head of recruitment at Celtic, before leaving to join Leicester City.

If Hammond is appointed, it could mean that the club are set to go in a new direction.

Current Celtic assistant boss John Kennedy was reportedly in talks with the club to become sporting director before Brendan Rodgers resigned.

Interestingly, Hammond was the man who helped to bring Oliver Burke to West Brom. Burke has now left Celtic to return to the Hawthorns.

The Celtic board must feel that the time is now to bring in new face with fresh ideas to implement at the club. Only time will tell if Hammond will be that man. If he is fans, let us hope that he is the right man for the job.
