Celtic loan winger Daniel Arzani’s future looks like it could be in Glasgow for another year-and-a-half.
According to the World Game, Neil Lennon has been impressed with what he’s seen in training from the Aussie. Even though he’s yet to make a single matchday squad this season, Celtic could be set to make a move to extend his loan deal at Parkhead with Manchester City.
The proposed deal would see Arzani stay at Celtic for the 2020-21 campaign. This is likely simply down to the fact that he’s had no chance to progress here due to his ACL injury.
Arzani was crocked against Dundee on Halloween last year. Since then, it’s been a long process for him to get back up to speed.
The player spoke back in June about how he was ready to get going again (Celtic TV). However, he still hasn’t been seen in a matchday squad as he struggles to make an impact.
Could Arzani be a replacement for Elyounoussi?
Arzani’s natural position is at left-wing. However, at the moment, you can see why he may be struggling to get in. Mohamed Elyounoussi has been flying with seven goals to his name in only 12 appearances (Transfermarkt). Behind him, we have the likes of Mikey Johnston looking to push himself too.
Yet, it’s been disappointing that we have yet to see anything from Arzani this season. When he was ruled out for the rest of last season, many would’ve hoped that he would’ve been ready by this stage of the 2020 campaign.
But a move to keep him here for another year wouldn’t be surprising. Remember, Australia assistant boss Rene Mulensteen went to visit Lennon and was told that the club rates Arzani highly (Daily Record).
Given Elyounoussi is only contracted to Celtic until the end of the season, it could be an idea to eye up Arzani as his replacement if we can’t sign the Norwegian permanently.
If that’s to be the case, however, we have to start seeing what Arzani is all about. If he really is the real deal, Lennon has to find him some game-time so we can all see it for ourselves.
Whether he’s fit to play at the moment or not is unclear. Lennon hasn’t provided much in the way of an official update. But if he’s going to be extending his deal here for another season, it would be good to get a glimpse of his talent.
