Celtic may need to act fast to secure a player who’s been likened by French media to Jamie Vardy [20minutesfr].

His name is Rhys Healey. The Toulouse striker is ahead of Celtic’s Vakoun Bayo in the pecking order at the Stadium TFC. Formerly of MK Dons, Torquay United and Dundee, the striker has nine goals in 20 outings so far this season.

TEAMtalk are reporting that Healey, signed by Toulouse under the guidance of former Spurs and Liverpool chief Damien Comolli, is attracting attention across England. With Celtic in the market for strikers, given the indifferent form of Ajeti and inevitable departure of Edouard, Healey may be an economical and wise choice.

According to TEAMtalk, the likes of West Brom and Middlesbrough are among those chasing his signature. Sheffield United, Norwich, and Bournemouth have also been said to be keeping tabs on him.

Late bloomer? Rhys Healey profiled

At 26, Healey is a late bloomer by anyone’s standards. However, he’s had two consecutive decent seasons, having netted 11 times in League One for MK Dons last year [Transfermarkt]. Certainly, his form has proven detrimental to Vakoun Issouf Bayo, who has been in and out of the Toulouse squad.

At 5’9″, he’s hardly the most physical presence, but his low centre of gravity and efficiency in shot-taking over recent seasons make him a decent shout. With a nomadic career comparable to Gary Hooper before he joined Celtic, Healey won December’s Ligue 2 Player of the Month after a run of successful outings for TFC.

Considering the success we’ve had stealing players from Toulouse, Healey could be one on Celtic’s radar. Christopher Jullien has been an obvious success, while Odsonne Edouard was plucked from a loan spell at Les Violets.

The sticking point? TEAMtalk suggest Healey is valued at £5m. Celtic may have other targets in mind with a better potential sell-on fee.

That said, the Englishman, who played 7 times for Dundee in 15-16 [Transfermarkt] may be hungry to prove himself back on this side of the Channel.
