Rangers appear to be surrounded in controversy as they continue to be at loggerheads with their own support less than 2 weeks from the Glasgow derby.
Celtic will take the journey to Ibrox on April 3rd in what’s looking like a hugely important clash in the title-race. Victory will likely all but ensure the title is coming back to Parkhead. Therefore, the Hoops should be right up for the challenge that awaits them.
As for our rivals, the pressure is all on them, and recently they’ve been criticised by their supporters for taking part in the Sydney Cup with Celtic. Those protests from their fans only intensified at the weekend when they threw tennis balls onto the pitch.

And today, Rangers have released a statement having a go at their own support as the infighting continues. Our rivals stated the following on their official website:
“It is deeply regrettable that the same small rump of “supporters” remains intent on causing damage to our club. It is particularly concerning to note the timing they have chosen to launch their latest attack. It is lost on nobody that those intent on creating maximum disruption are those who have either enjoyed, or craved, a role within our club.
“The collective desire of our Board, Management and players, is to have unity of purpose over the coming months. Rest assured, we will address the disruptors and their propaganda war at the end of this season. For now, nothing matters but results on the field.”
Rangers tear right into their supporters as Glasgow derby nears
This is a pretty strong statement from our rivals as they get stuck into their own support. Laughable however that they claim those who are protesting are a “small rump”.
They have official fan groups and full away supports getting raging over their decision to play in Sydney. This is very much a large element of the Ibrox fan-base. Make no mistake about it.
And going by some of the early social media reaction to the statement, our rival fans aren’t happy either. You’ve got to love it considering how close we are from the derby. That our rivals are happy to accuse their own support of not caring enough about the results on the field.

Sure, come kickoff they’ll still be up for it on April 3rd. Their supporters too. But at the first sign of trouble, we’ll start feeling the effects of the current infighting at Ibrox. They’ll be turning on each other quickly, and that’s what Celtic have to do. They have to put Rangers into a position where their fans, already fuming with their club, turn on the team too.
Granted, Rangers’ decision to play in Sydney looks a lot worse than ours. Especially when you consider how the competition is being branded. Financially it may be valuable for them, but with regards to their reputation? Not so much.
The Glasgow derby is nearing and our Ibrox rivals are all over the place here. Hopefully, that animosity their fans clearly feel towards their board shows.
